A Taiidan "Qwaar-Jet" Heavy Cruiser, and 2 "Heeshk" Support Frigates are advancing in a dense nebula.
I created this image because i wanted to make some decent nebula effect on my own. i also wanted to make the cruiser drop shadow into the nebula (not on a solid object, but into the gas).
The final image was achieved by compositing 2 renders: One with the ships, main stars, and the volumetric light that created the shadow effect, and one that was just a more detailed nebula. All effects except the borders, background starfield and compositing were created in 3DS MAX.
wow thats awesome! i dont know much about 3d art work (i'm barely gettin my feet wet w/ photoshop and digital painting) what did you use to make this and how did you come up with this concept?

It's simpler than You may think. The whole nebula is procedural. It's multiple noise maps combined together. The shadow effect is a volume light. That was hard to set up right (maybe caused by my inexperience with it:-P). Well, the concept... im fanatical for Homeworld, and for the Taiidani race, so i never mind doing a HW render when i get a good idea.
thats great it definitly sounds technical. i've been wanting to get into 3d art and i'm not sure what program to buy and how i'm gonna start learning it. i hear that prog. like maya and 3dsmax are really diff to learn but i really wanna try it jus b/c i love the idea of being able to render chars n stuff...makes me feel like they're closer to life..if that doesnt sound too crazy

Love your homeworld models. I've seen them before at Sci-fi-meshes and relics forum and they are all great.
Excellent scene.

Homeworld, Haegemonia style. The nebula and the quality of the ships really make me wish Haegemonia were more easily modded to take HW ships. Friend of mine, DatonKollander (who I should really get on this site one of these days, X_x) loves to putz with game mods and would've just been in heaven trying it.
Anyways, the nebula, the ships, and the lighting look great, and I particularly like how you have the QJ dimly lit, like "something dark this way comes."
Have a great time everyone and please fav this article so as many people can see the featured works. I would recommend seeing each one and faving them too.

Years are like fractals. The more you've seen of them, the more you appreciate the details of each one, rather than how many you've seen.
I was wondering if you are ever going to release the homeworld models you've made, or are those '
